"The greatest shortcoming of the Human race is our inability to understand the Exponential Function." - Dr. Albert Bartlett

The amount of CO2 in the atmosphere since the industrial revolution has been growing at an exponential rate. While we do nothing the world is getting warmer. It is past the time of allowing ourselves to be lost in dumb down TV. The alarms bells have the sounding for a long time. It is time to wake up and take responsibility for our actions. CO2 is by no means the only pollutant we are producing, but it has become the most famous. Will be decide to act on our own to stay within the limits or will nature have to do it for us?Just for the record I am aware Al Gore is a Bilderberg Member, and what that means. |
Human population since the start of the industrial revolution has turned the corner and is growing at an exponential rate.
Having taken 10 000 years to reach our first billion at the start of the industrial revolution, we have since doubled that despite two world wars to 2 billion. Even before the next doubling to 4 billion people the warnings where there to be seen. The doubling we are now on to 8 billion, will be our last. Will be decide to act on our own or will nature have to do it for us? |
Oil is not the only resource shortage we are facing, but for now, is the most serious. Since the industrial revolution we have been able to exploit fossil fuels at exponential rates.
In 2008 for the first time oil was unable to keep up with demand for five out of six previous quarters, despite oil the price being the highest ever for suppliers.
The IEA have now admitted Conventional oil peaked in 2006 and is no way a coincidence with the "Credit Crunch". The $147 oil spike has clearly demonstrated that oil is both no longer able to keep up with demand, and there is a limit on oil price before it breaks the economy. Peak Oil for all liquid fuels is due any time now, some estimate are pointing to before 2015 . |
All money is loaned into existence, with interest. The very concept assumes the future will always be, not only bigger, but exponentially bigger than the present giving us what economists believe is the god word "Growth". This works well making the rich even richer until we start pressing on the limits of the planet, which we are doing right now. Until you change the way money works, you change nothing. - Michael C. Ruppert One way or another the way money works is going to change. Infinite growth on a finite planet can not go on to infinity |
There are many different exponential stresses, all peaking and intersecting at the same time. If we try to only fix one problem which allows us to continue to grow for a little longer, we will sooner or later hit a barrier we can not pass. At this point collapse is a real possibility. So what is sustainability? "development that meets current needs without jeopardizing the ability of future generations to meet theirs" Brundtland Report The time for us to throw away our childish ways and grow up as a species. The choice we face now is to either keep growing and die or to become sustainable and live. |
